2 Installation

Extract the zipped package downloaded from ThemeForest to your desktop. In the extracted package you will find the-marmalade.zip which is the WordPress theme file.

You can install the theme one of two ways:

  • FTP Extract the the-marmalade.zip file and upload the extracted folder to the /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server.

  • WordPress Navigate to Apperance > Add New Themes > Upload page. Select the the-marmalade.zip file.
    Press the Install Now button to upload and install the theme.

After uploading the theme, you must activate it. Navigate to the Appearence > Themes page to activate the theme.

Most options in the Wordpress theme customizer will take advantage of some clever jQuery to update the site on the fly. Some areas though can’t be manipulated so easily with jQuery and may fail to update. A good example would be input placeholder text color. If this occurs, don’t stress, you can always click save and refresh the page and the new changes should be seen.

Some items on the site will not update automatically and will require the customizer to refresh it self. You wont ever really notice this as the customizer refreshes it self without any page flicker. However, you wont see the change occur to the page until the page has reloaded which sometimes appears to be lag. A good example is if you change the layout of the site, or the pagination type.

The Marmalade supports one locations for custom WordPress menu - the Header Menu:

  • The Header Menu supports 4 levels of drop-downs.

For menu setup, navigate to the Appearance > Menus page. Enter a name for your menu and add links to the menu by using the options given on the left sidebar. You can manage your menus using the drag and drop functionality.
After setting up your menu, select the menu you just created from the theme locations drop-down box and hit the "Save" button.

5 Homepage

The Marmalade comes with a straightforward and simply homepage. If you would like to adjust the amount of posts shown per page you can go to Settings > Reading > Blog pages show at most and change the number.

6 Widgets

Sidebar Areas

A widget to put it simply its a block of code that we can put into various areas, also known as sidebars. Navigate to appearance > widgets, and lets get started. This theme comes with the following sidebar ‘areas’:

  • Blog Sidebar 1
  • Blog Sidebar 2
  • Blog Sidebar 3
  • Post Sidebar 1
  • Post Sidebar 2
  • Post Sidebar 3
  • Footer Widgets 1
  • Footer Widgets 2
  • Footer Widgets 3

You can choose what sidebar to show on blog page, search and archive pages, post page at customizer layout settings.

The Marmalade comes with 7 different custom widgets.

  • Facebook Widget displays a nice facebook page box.
  • Flickr Widget displays grid of flickr images.
  • Instagram Widget displays grid of instagram images.
  • Recent Posts Widget displays list of latest posts.
  • Social Links Widget displays list of social icons.
  • Twitter Widget displays latest twitter posts.
  • TinyMCE Widget allows to add any content.

7 Posts

The Marmalade supports all post formats. When you're writing a new posts choose what format your post are and insert the necersary info.

You can also create fullwidth post, spotlight post and add custom post title.

8 Pages

You can choose to show post title of the page, add custom slider or google map.

For contact page we recommend the plugin "Contact Form 7" and have done pre-styling for this plugin. When you create your form use the following mark-up:

9 Shortcodes

Please note shortcodes are only availble after you have installed our “Pryanik Shortcodes Plugin” plugin. If you installed all the recommended plugins on activation you should already have it installed and working. If you are new to Wordpress you may not have heard of a ‘shortcode’ before.

It’s basically an easy way to include small snippets of code into content areas. This theme comes with the following shortcodes:

  • Alerts
  • Tabs
  • Toogles
  • Services
  • Buttons
  • Dividers
  • Columns

10 Post Thumbnails

The Marmalade uses the WordPress Post Thumbnails function. This way, you can upload one image and WordPress will automatically resize it to all of the various thumbnail sizes used throughout the theme. You should always use images with at least 940px width.

To set a post thumbnail for your post, go to Posts > Add New > Set Featured Image
The normal upload box will now appear. Upload your image and click "Use as featured image". Now simply close the box.

If you upload featured image to post, it will be always shown on blog page. If you upload featured image for page and also select to show page title, it will be used as background for page title.

11 Theme Options

To enter get to the theme options go to Appearance > Customize. Here you'll be able to hide/show elements, upload your logo, change colors etc. The customizer have the following sections:

  • General settings
  • Header settings
  • Layout settings
  • Background settings
  • Colors
  • Typography settings
  • Buttons settings
  • Home Page Slider
  • Footer Settings

Each sections has lots of options so you can customize the theme to your needs!
